Its highly awaited inauguration took place on January, 4th 2010 – not randomly, as this day represents the 4th anniversary of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum’s investiture as a Vice President of the United Arab Emirates, and as a Prime Minister and Legislator of Dubai.

For those like me who could see it personally before completion, it was not surprising that January, 4th 2010 was the day when the international curiosity was caught by this memorable event, as the magnificence of the whole project is definitely clear.

Launched in 2005, it was officially open to public in one of the most difficult periods of Dubai’s modern history, due to the financial situation of Nakheel, one of the most important building companies of the United Arab Emirates. Indeed, there has been a strong emphasization of Dubai’s financial state of affairs which is even being referred to the whole emirate whereas it concerns just one (though among the most important) building companies in the UAE.

A few days after the official declaration of Nakheel’s request to postpone the payment of some financing and the consequent negative reaction of the international Stock market community, the sister-emirate of the capital city, Abu Dhabi, came to help by giving Nakheel 4.5 million $. This enabled Dubai’s financial market to recover on the international level and gradually focalize on positive objectives.

Burj Dubai Inauguration
Among the most important ones there was, certainly, Burj Dubai, whose opening had also been postponed several times. When it finally took place – as already reported – on January, 4th 2010, it caught outstanding world publicity: no newspaper or magazine, no TV channel, no internet news channel, no blog, no radio station could ignore such a mind-blowing event. Obviously, it was an unforgettable happening where local Authorities were peacefully greeted by a throng of people wishing to celebrate this historical opening and book their visit inside the Giant from the day after on. During the ceremony it was also stated that, in honour of Sheikh Khalifa ben Zayed Al-Nahyane, the sovereign of Abu Dhabi, Burj Dubai would be named also Burj Khalifa, as a thankfulness sign towards the sister-emirate and its precious help.

It is possible for everybody to visit Burj Khalifa by preferably reserving in advance: the ticket price amounts to Dh. 100.00 (about € 20.00) – discounted tariffs for children. Along its 828 m, making it the highest construction on earth, a world of outstanding venues: the first Armani Hotel in the world, The Residences at Burj Dubai (a series of luxurious apartments located on numerous floors thus offering the utmost vision of luxury), numberless dining outlets, opulent Spas, shopping malls, exclusive markets, clubs, libraries, multimedia centres, entertainment venues, and, on the 124th floor, “At the Top”, a series of panoramic platforms boasting literally the most stunning panorama in the world.
